At Kates Hill, we believe that computing is of vital importance in the education of young people. With the ever-growing presence of technology in our world, being able to use technology effectively is paramount. Our computing curriculum allows pupils to not only access a wide range of technology to use in the wider world but it will also teach them how to use it efficiently and safely in the future.
Key features of the Kates Hill Computing provision:
- Use of laptops within computing lessons.
- Access to iPad’s for research and TT Rockstars to enrich knowledge outside of computing.
- Access to Class VR software which is used in the wider curriculum and allow students to explore the world.
At Kates Hill, we aim for all students to feel confident in how to access and use technology in this growing technological age.
Intent
At Kates Hill, the intent of our computing curriculum is to harbour and motivate young people into using technology effectively throughout their life. We work hard to develop the wide array of computing skills that are needed in the wider world and how they benefit everyone in their future careers and life. We endeavour to ensure that all pupils can become independent when using technology and to do this in an appropriate way, which then allows them to explore the internet whilst feeling safe.
Our ICT curriculum intends to:
- Inspire the next generation: using different technology we hope to inspire pupils to try and achieve their goals and ambitions and understand how technology can help that.
- Promote confidence with technology: we are committed to helping children become as confident as possible whilst using technology within and outside of school.
- Future aspirations: we aim to educate children on how technology could be used in future careers.
- Deliver a progressive skills based computing curriculum that progresses year on year.

Impact
The impact of computing will produce a future generation of technological users, who feel confident, safe and creative whilst using technology. All learners will be able to identify dangers, that can affect them online and how best to avoid these whilst navigating the internet. All pupils need to be able to use computing software to create concepts, which are used in the wider world and our pupils by the end of the Year 6 will have experienced a wide range of software and have achieved the aims of computing with confidence.

Developing Cultural Capital through Computing
At Kates Hill, we believe that cultural capital is the collection of knowledge, skills, and experiences that children need to thrive in the wider world. Our computing provision aims at providing children with a range of technological skills, experiences and help them to develop an online safety toolkit.

Online Safety
In today’s digital world, staying safe online is essential—especially for our learners at Kates Hill. Using computers and technology can be fun and social, but this also comes with risks like cyberbullying, scams, and inappropriate content. Throughout our computing curriculum and online safety days, we aim to teach learners how to:
Always keep personal information private, use strong passwords, think before they share, be cautious of strangers online, report harmful behaviour, and remember that what they post will last forever. Practising Online Safety helps protect our learners’ identity, their wellbeing, and their future.
Autumn Term
General Online Safety and Smart Rules
During Autumn 1, we had an Online Safety Focus Day. The learners discovered what Online Safety includes, how to be safe online and what the dangers of being online are. Learners did some work around how to stay safe online and who they could tell if they were feeling unsafe.
Online Gaming
On November 30th, we looked at how to stay safe online whilst playing online games. We learnt about the positives and negatives of online gaming and what precautions we can take to stay safe.
Spring Term
For our Online Safety Focus Day on Social media, we learnt about the dangers of social media and how we can stay safe from them. We also learnt the age we have to be to have an account for social media platforms including Youtube. It was really interesting finding out about the different age restrictions for social media.
Summer Term
Emails and Personal Information
For our Online Safety day about emails and personal information, we learnt what emails are, how they are sent, what people may include in an email, and which devices can be used to send them. We also learnt how to make sure our emails are appropriate and what to do if we receive an email that seems unsafe.
